Paul E. Mawn, Jr.
Paul grew up in the Greater Boston Area,and graduated from Melrose High School, in Melrose, Massachusetts. At Melrose High, Paul played football and ran track, developing a lifelong competitive spirit and respect for the rules of the game. After high school, Paul attended Boston College, where he majored in Philosophy and wrote for the college newspaper. As a Philosophy major, Paul mastered the fundamentals of logic and argumentation, and developed an aptitude for examining issues from many different angles. After graduation from college, Paul worked in customer service and sales. One of the keys to his success in that field was his ability to set realistic customer expectations and to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. He took to heart the words of a trusted mentor who told him to always “under-promise and over-deliver.” As an attorney, Paul avoids making overly-optimistic promises to clients, and delivers good results by focusing the energy of the attorney-client relationship on the achievement of realistic goals. After several years in sales, Paul enrolled in Western New England Univeristy School of Law. There he met many of the people who would become his closest friends and colleagues, and it was there that he developed his interest in estate planning and probate law. During law school, Paul clerked for Attorney John L. Bonee III at the firm now known as Bonee-Weintraub. After graduating Law School in 2002, Paul worked as a Legal Research Clerk for the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch and spent time as a contract attorney for two local law firms. In May 2005, Paul opened his solo practice in Hartford, Connecticut. In November 2005, he moved his offices to Newington, Connecticut. In November 2015, The Mawn Law Offices LLC moved to West Hartford Center. In April 2019, Paul moved his office to its present location at 75 Wakeley Road, Newington, Connecticut, while maintaining a conference room at the West Hartford location. Paul lives in Newington, Connecticut, where he is an active member of his church. His hobbies include golf, tennis, piano and cycling. Paul is a lifelong Patriots fan.
Now in his sixteenth year of practice, Attorney Mawn has developed concentrations in Criminal Law, Probate Matters, DCF Defense and Civil Litigation. The following summarizes Paul's experience in those matters:
Criminal Law: Attorney Mawn has represented over 200 adult defendants in the Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, Meriden, Danbury and Manchester G.A. Courts, and has represented over 40 Juvenile Defendants in the Hartford and New Britain Juvenile Courts. He has served as lead counsel in several criminal trials, and has completed over 140 Hours of Criminal Practice/Trial Advocacy Training.
Probate Matters: Attorney Mawn has been involved in a wide variety of probate litigation, including several complex fiduciary litigation matters. Along these lines, Paul has represented several clients in will contests, and has brought and defended legal actions against conservators, administrators and executors. Paul has also been involved in litigation between trustees, with one case landing on the Complex Litigation Docket. Attorney Mawn has had occasion to file several Probate Appeals.
While Probate litigation is an important part of Attorney Mawn's practice, helping clients avoid litigation is just as important to Attorney Mawn. To that end, Attorney Mawn has advised hundreds of clients estate planning and probate administraton issues.
DCF Defense: Attorney Mawn has represented parents and children on neglect and abuse matters in the Superior Court for Juvenile Matters, and has provided trial advocacy before the Child Protection Session at Middletown.
Civil Matters: Attorney Mawn has provided representation on civil rights matters, administrative appeals, collections matters, contract disputes and other civil matters in Superior Court.
Foreclosures: Attorney Mawn has served as the foreclosure auction committee, and has served on a volunteer panel advising individuals on foreclosure defense.
